Some thoughts bloom quietly, but leave a lasting fragrance.

Durva Ashtami Story for Kids: Lord Ganesha and the 21 Durva Grass Offerings

It was Durva Ashtami. Madhav sat before Ganesha with a small bunch of fresh Durva.

“Grandma, why do we offer this little grass to Ganesha? And why twenty-one?”

Grandma smiled. “There is a beautiful story behind it.”

She told Madhav about Analasura, whose fiery heat troubled everyone. When Ganesha swallowed him to protect others, the heat began to trouble Ganesha too. The sages placed twenty-one blades of Durva on Ganesha, which helped soothe him.

“That is why Durva became very dear to Ganesha,” Grandma said.

“But why twenty-one?” Madhav asked.

“Twenty-one can also remind us to offer our whole self to Ganesha - our senses, actions, breath, the five elements and our mind.”

Madhav smiled. “So, all of me?”

“All of you,” Grandma said.

They began the Ekavimshati Durva Yugma Puja. With each of the twenty-one Ganesha mantras, Madhav offered Durva to Ganesha.

When the final offering was made, Madhav folded his hands and prayed:

“Ganesha, please keep my mind calm, my heart kind and my thoughts good. Help me do my best and try again when something is difficult. Please guide me always. I offer these Durva with love and respect.”

Madhav opened his eyes and smiled at Ganesha.

Moral

A small offering becomes precious when it is made with love, faith and a sincere heart.

Madhav’s Little Tulsi Plant: A Lesson from Ganesha

Madhav loved his little Tulsi plant.
Its fresh green leaves, gentle fragrance, healing qualities, and peaceful presence made it very special to him. Whenever Madhav sat beside it, he felt a sense of calm and a quiet, divine warmth.
Every morning, he watered it and said, “Grow big and strong!” One evening, heavy rain came. ‘Ganesha! Look!’ he exclaimed, his face lighting up with joy. He turned to his little Ganesha idol and smiled. Bappa, I understand now. Sometimes things don’t happen the way we want, but we can always try a different way.
Moral of the story

Pitter-patter! Pitter-patter!

The next morning, Madhav saw that the plant had bent and its stem had broken.

“Oh no! My plant!” he cried.

He sat beside his little Ganesha idol.

“Bappa, why did this happen? I took such good care of it.”

Madhav looked at the broken plant for a while.

Then he gently placed it in fresh soil, gave it a little stick for support, and moved it into the sunlight.

Maybe you can grow in a new way, he whispered.

A few days later, Madhav noticed a tiny green shoot peeking out of the soil.

Madhav joined his hands for a little prayer: “Ganesha Bappa, when things don't go my way, help me try again. Teach me to learn, grow, and never give up. Stay with me always.”

Ganapati Bappa Morya!

When our plans change, we can learn, try again, and grow in a new way.

Lord Ganesha and the Falling Leaf: A Beautiful Story About Change for Kids

Every evening, Madhava loved sitting under the big neem tree near the little Ganesha temple. One evening, a tiny leaf floated down and landed near his feet. Madhava picked it up and looked at the tree.

“Ganesha, why did this leaf fall? It was happy on the tree, wasn’t it?”

A soft breeze rustled the branches.

A few more leaves fell, while tiny new leaves peeked out from the branches.

Madhava looked closely. “New leaves!” he said with surprise.

In his heart, he heard Ganesha’s gentle voice.

“Everything changes, Madhava. Leaves fall so new ones can grow.”

Madhava thought quietly.

His favourite little shoes had become too small. His old shirt no longer fit him. Even his best friend had moved away. He had felt sad about these changes.

“But, Ganesha,” Madhava asked, “does growing mean we have to say goodbye to some things?”

Ganesha seemed to smile. “Sometimes, yes. But every goodbye makes room for something new.”

Madhava looked at the little leaf in his hand. He gently placed it beneath the tree.

“I understand,” he said. “I can miss the old things and still be happy about the new ones.”

The next morning, Madhava came back to the temple. A tiny green leaf was shining in the sunlight.

And Madhava understood something important: People change. Life changes. Circumstances change. We may feel sad when things are different, and that is okay. But just like a tree welcomes new leaves, we too can welcome new things with an open heart.

Madhava folded his hands and smiled. “Ganesha, I think I am ready to grow.”

Madhava’s Little Prayer🙏

Ganesha, help me welcome every change,

Give me courage when things feel strange.

Help me grow with a happy heart,

And guide me gently from the start.

Moral of the story

Change is a part of growing. Let go of what has passed, and make room for something new.

Ganesha and the Little Boat of Faith

Madhav was a little boy who lived near a beautiful river. Every day, he crossed the river in a small wooden boat to go to school.

One evening, as Madhav was returning home, dark clouds covered the sky. Suddenly, it began to rain heavily.

The wind became strong, and the little boat started moving from side to side.

Madhav became frightened. “What should I do? What if the boat turns over?”

He held the oar tightly, but the more frightened he became, the harder it was to think.

Then he remembered what his grandmother always told him:

“When you are afraid, don't let fear make your decisions. First, become calm.”

Madhav closed his eyes. He folded his hands and prayed, “Ganesha, please give me courage and wisdom.”

He took a deep breath. Then he remembered his mother's teaching:

“When the river becomes rough, don't fight it. Watch the water and guide the boat carefully.”

Madhav opened his eyes.

The storm was still there.

But now he was calm.

He slowly guided the boat towards the riverbank.

One stroke of the oar…

Then another…

Soon, Madhav reached the shore safely.

His mother was waiting for him.

Madhav hugged her and said,

“Amma, I was very scared. I prayed to Ganesha, and then I remembered what you taught me.”

His mother smiled.

“That is the strength of prayer, Madhav. God does not always remove the storm. Sometimes, He gives us the courage and wisdom to cross it.”

That night, Madhav stood before Ganesha and smiled.

“Ganesha, You didn't stop the rain.”

“But You helped me stay calm.”

“And You reminded me what to do.”

Madhav finally understood:

Prayer does not always change the situation.

Sometimes, prayer changes us.

It gives us a calm mind, a brave heart and the faith to take the next step.

🙏 A Little Prayer

Dear Ganesha,

When I am afraid, make me calm.
When I am confused, give me wisdom.
When life is difficult, give me courage.
Help me trust You and do what is right.

Sharanam Ganesha. 🙏

Today's Lesson

When life gets difficult, stop worrying, start praying with trust in Ganesha.🙏
