Some thoughts bloom quietly, but leave a lasting fragrance.

Ganesha and the Changing Narmada River - Story for Children

Every Sunday, Madhava visited the little Ganesha temple with Grandma. The temple stood beside the sacred Narmada River.

After his prayer to Lord Ganesha, Madhava loved sitting on the temple steps and watching the river.

One morning, after a night of heavy rain, Madhava ran towards his favourite steps.

He stopped.

The river had risen high and covered them!

“Grandma! Where are my steps?” he cried.

“The Narmada has risen,” Grandma said.

“But I sit there every Sunday!” Madhava frowned.

The river rushed past, carrying leaves and little twigs.

“Whoa! Look at the river!”

Madhava watched the water splash against the rocks.

“It is going so fast!”

Then he noticed something.

The river didn't stop when it met the rocks.

It simply moved around them and kept flowing.

Madhava looked at Ganesha inside the temple.

“Ganesha… the river is okay even though everything changed.”

He folded his hands.

“Ganesha, when things change, please help me stay peaceful too.”

A few days later, the river became calm again.

Madhava ran to the steps.

“My steps are back!”

He sat down, dipped his feet into the cool Narmada and smiled.

Moral: The river had changed, but it had never lost its peace. Madhava hoped he could learn to do the same.

The Magical Modaka – A Ganesha Story for Children

One evening, Madhav came home and looked at Grandpa's empty chair. He climbed onto it, hugged the cushion and whispered, “Grandpa, I miss you.” The house felt unusually quiet.

Madhav ran to his favourite little Ganesha idol.

“Bappa, Grandpa has left. Who will tell me stories now? I feel so lonely.”

Just then - Ting! Ting! The little bell beside Ganesha began to swing.

Madhav looked around. There was no wind. “Bappa… was that you?”

Before he could wonder any further, a red hibiscus slipped from Ganesha's garland and landed right in his lap. Madhav giggled.

Then came another surprise. The plate of modakas gently wobbled. Wobble... wobble... One little modaka rolled straight toward Madhav and stopped at his feet.

“Bappa! A magical modaka!”

Madhav took a bite and suddenly remembered Grandpa. Grandpa always shared modakas with him.

“One for you and one for me,” he would say.

Madhav smiled through his tears. “Grandpa isn't here anymore,” he whispered, “but his love is still here.”

He placed a modaka before Ganesha.

“And you're here too, Bappa.” The lamp flickered. The flowers swayed.

Ting! Madhav folded his little hands.

“Dear Bappa,

Please keep Grandpa happy wherever he is. And when I feel lonely, please sit with me, listen to my stories, and make my heart smile. I promise I'll share my modakas with you!”

Madhav giggled. The little bell rang once more. Ting! “I thought I was alone,” he whispered.

Moral of the story

When someone leaves our life, we may feel lonely, but we are never truly alone. The ones we love may leave our sight, but their love stays in our hearts. And Ganesha Bappa is always near, quietly reminding us that love never truly leaves. Sometimes, a little faith and one magical modaka can make the heart smile again.
