The Magical Modaka – A Ganesha Story for Children
One evening, Madhav came home and looked at Grandpa's empty chair. He climbed onto it, hugged the cushion and whispered, “Grandpa, I miss you.” The house felt unusually quiet.
Madhav ran to his favourite little Ganesha idol.
“Bappa, Grandpa has left. Who will tell me stories now? I feel so lonely.”
Just then - Ting! Ting! The little bell beside Ganesha began to swing.
Madhav looked around. There was no wind. “Bappa… was that you?”
Before he could wonder any further, a red hibiscus slipped from Ganesha's garland and landed right in his lap. Madhav giggled.
Then came another surprise. The plate of modakas gently wobbled. Wobble... wobble... One little modaka rolled straight toward Madhav and stopped at his feet.
“Bappa! A magical modaka!”
Madhav took a bite and suddenly remembered Grandpa. Grandpa always shared modakas with him.
“One for you and one for me,” he would say.
Madhav smiled through his tears. “Grandpa isn't here anymore,” he whispered, “but his love is still here.”
He placed a modaka before Ganesha.
“And you're here too, Bappa.” The lamp flickered. The flowers swayed.
Ting! Madhav folded his little hands.
“Dear Bappa,
Please keep Grandpa happy wherever he is. And when I feel lonely, please sit with me, listen to my stories, and make my heart smile. I promise I'll share my modakas with you!”
Madhav giggled. The little bell rang once more. Ting! “I thought I was alone,” he whispered.
Moral of the story
When someone leaves our life, we may feel lonely, but we are never truly alone. The ones we love may leave our sight, but their love stays in our hearts. And Ganesha Bappa is always near, quietly reminding us that love never truly leaves. Sometimes, a little faith and one magical modaka can make the heart smile again.
